Maximize Your Spring Cleaning with this Timely Organizational Tool

The absolute best way to Spring Clean is to mind your mess. The things you’ve accumulated, the amount of clutter you have is unique to you. And it will ultimately determine what your cleaning and decluttering looks like. Never mind what Spring Cleaning is because that’s not as important as your clutter level.

What’s is clutter level?

You know those charts in the doctor’s office asking about how your pain? They look a little something like this:

Well, this pain scale you’re very much familiar with is exactly what your clutter level is. There’s 5 levels which are based on your unique starting point. How much clutter you actually have is based on what you should focus on for your Spring Cleaning.

The reason knowing your clutter level is so important is because it determines how you organize. It’s how professional organizers help do what they do. We ask questions, look at the photos you sent, tour your home to get a sense of and understand where your home is clutter wise.

Often, when you’re looking at Amazon finds and organizing tips, you don’t have a sense of how it applies to your space. Mainly because the person’s home who's sharing the hack looks nothing like yours.

How much clutter you, your systems (or lack of), how long your space has been this way, determine your clutter level. Which also determines your path to a decluttered space. The 5 clutter levels are:

  • Severe clutter

  • Moderately severe clutter

  • Moderate clutter

  • Mild clutter

  • Little to mild clutter

Remember, very similar to pain scale from the doctors office.

Here’s a visual of the 5 clutter levels:

Just how there’s a number associated with each pain level on the pain scale, there’s also a number associated with your clutter. And it progresses going up to get better or going down getting worse.

Spring Cleaning for your clutter level

Now that we've got a basis of your clutter level, let’s take it a step further and apply it to your Spring Cleaning. Clutter isn’t just clutter. We know this. Our things are not just practical things that we use and need but they’re also a reflection of who we are and how we want to be perceived by the world. Our things are how we see ourselves, want to be seen, who we believe we are, and what we believe we deserve. These are what our things represent. This is why your Spring Cleaning will look different from the next person’s home.

But the reason every year is a doozy or doesn’t make a huge impact is because you’re not thinking of YOUR starting point.

I can’t iterate this enough.

Spring cleaning should be about giving your home a reset for the true new year, Spring. But if you barely scratch the surface on decluttering because you’re unsure of what to get rid of, where to donate things, or simply letting go is a challenge. Spring cleaning will be the opposite of refreshing cause you’ll just be attempting to.

Lastly, you don’t have to wait until the Spring time to do a deep clean. In fact, the more you declutter throughout the year, the less this time is a guidepost for when to get your home in order. So, instead of applying general Spring Cleaning tips to fit your home, try implementing tips that consider where your home actually is.

How you say? Of course, I gotchu. I didn’t bring you this far for nothing.

Now let’s go deeper into your clutter level. Let’s incorporate another layer to your home and Spring Cleaning around it. Adding on to the clutter levels is gonna be your Homebody Archetype.

Your Homebody Archetype is in depth analysis of your home. There’s 5 holistic but comprehensive archetypes which I created to take you from point A to point B. There’s 5 profiles that help you organize in a way that doesn’t completely neglect all the other factors that attribute to your things. Your archetype includes:

✓ How you accumulated your clutter

✓ Your mindset

✓ What type of home projects you should be focused on

✓ What you’re doing wrong that’s keeping your space cluttered

✓ What you should be doing instead to make bigger leaps in your declutter progress

✓ The quickest route to move to the next archetype (or a higher score)

Here’s a visual of the 5 Homebody Archetypes:

I created the archetypes based on real people I know and homes I’ve actually worked in. There’s meaning behind everything you see.

SO, we broke down this tool to help you Spring Clean with ease and confidence. Don’t you want to know your archetype?

This month, I’m hosting my annual 5-day Spring Cleaning Challenge from March 18th - March 22nd. To sign up for the challenge:

  1. Take the Homebody Archetype Quiz

  2. Follow @organizeforlove on Instagram and turn on your post notifications

At the end of the challenge you’ll have 3 actionable (and realistic) tasks to work on based on your archetype. And you’ll just feel better about your situation.

If you do anything this Spring, I want you to get hyper focused on your home, what it needs specifically (why we’re here), and what works best for you based on where you are in your life. That’s the best way to get real results. To stop looking at everyone else’s paper and mind your own home. As your home therapist, I’m delighted to help you do that cause honestly you don’t have to Spring Clean. If you declutter your home right the first time, Spring Cleaning will be a bonus to what you’re already doing, not a necessity.

Oh and did I mention that the challenge is free and the quiz is free to take!??!

After you take the quiz, you’ll receive a snapshot of your profile, 1 thing you need to stop doing in your home and what to do instead. This will help you during the Spring Cleaning Challenge so make sure to keep it handy.

I hope this help. Yes, it’s a little different from the usual Spring Cleaning information you’re used to seeing but that’s the point. Because the info is pretty redundant. If you’re still cleaning the same way each year, then something is wrong and it’s time to do something different. So, why not this?! Click the link below to take the Homebody Archetype Quiz and join the challenge.
